Extension Lecture

As a regular feature of the college activities, an extension lecture was organized in Nirankari Baba Gurubachan Singh Memorial College, City Campus. In this programme, Dr. Kesana Srinivasa Rao, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow was invited to deliver an interesting and thought provoking lecture on “Organic Farming in India”. The lecture was attended by Honorable Vice-Principal, Ms. Prerna Sharma, and the Faculties and students of Economics and Geography courses. The session began at 11.30 a.m in the Smart Class Room, Room No. 13.

The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Soumya Sushila Sahoo, Faculty in Department of Economics and Dr. K. S. Rao receive of bouquet of flowers by Ms. Prerna Sharma. She introduced Dr. Kesana.Srinivasa Rao as an eminent and very experienced teacher and has contributed a lot in promoting research especially in the field of social sciences and especially in the subject of economics. Some of his notable and important recent studies include: Homeless Population in Uttar Pradesh, Doubling of Farmers Income by 2022-23 (Ist Year completed), Vegetable Cultivation in Uttar Pradesh, and Skill Gap Analysis in Uttar Pradesh.

At the event, Dr. K.S.Rao highlighted the importance and features of organic farming in the context of Indian economy. Although conventional way of farming had helped India not only to produce enough food for own consumption but also generated surpluses for exports; is becoming unsustainable by declining crop productivities, damage to the environment and heavy chemical contaminations, etc. So, the best alternative to the conventional agriculture is organic farming. In addition, he also highlighted the various challenges faced by organic farming in India such as lack of awareness, marketing problems, high input costs and inadequate infrastructure support and the required measures to tackle such challenges. After the lecture, there was open discussion between the expert and the students who clarified all their queries.

At the closure of the event, Ms.  Jyoti Jain, Faculty in Economics gave a formal vote of thanks to the eminent speaker of the event- Dr. K.S. Rao by extending her deep gratitude. She also thanked Dr. Satpal, Faculty in Economics; Dr. Soumya Sushila Sahoo, Faculty in Economics and Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Faculty in Geography for their co-operation in making the programme fruitful and a successful one. Last but not the least all the students are appreciated for their active participation.
